After four years at the helm of Warsaw Community High School's girls basketball progam, John Snyder is stepping down.

Snyder, whose teams posted a record of 46-41, informed the team at Tuesday evening's winter sports awards program.[[In-content Ad]]"I told them I was resigning," Snyder said in a phone conversation this morning. "I told them good luck and God bless."

Snyder said the girls acted surprised when he told them he was leaving the program.

"Coach Snyder was easy to work with and he always had everything in on time," said WCHS Athletic Director Dave Fulkerson. "We appreciate the effort he put forth in his four years as girls basketball head coach at WCHS."

Snyder took over the program in 2004 after Will Wienhorst left the program after 18 years.

Snyder's teams posted records of 13-10, 12-9, 9-12 and 12-10.

The Tigers, who were 13-15 in Northern Lakes Conference play under Snyder, finished the 2007-2008 season with a 51-38 loss to Elkhart Memorial in the championship game of the Class 4A Goshen Sectional.

Asked why he was stepping away from the program, Snyder said, "It was a process that started two weeks ago."

Asked if he planned to continue teaching at WCHS, Snyder said, "My plans at this point are to pray a lot and go where God leads me."

WCHS is also currently in the process of searching for a new athletic director and new head football coach.
