Tracie Smith has been named executive director of the Health Care Foundation of Kosciusko Co. Inc., according to a news release.

The new director plans to focus on the future of the non-profit organization designed to improve the health and health education of Kosciusko County citizens.

"I've come at an exciting time," said Smith. "The board of directors, staff and organization are ready for a change and transition to better meet the needs of the community. We have very strong programs in place. We just need to let the community know they are available."

After nine years, three main programs have evolved at the Health Care Foundation to meet identified needs in the county. The first, Beds and Britches Etc., also known as BABE, is an incentive program that encourages pregnant women to get early and consistent prenatal care; and to continue that care after their baby is born with well child check-ups.

The second program, Care Connection, is a client assistance program offering an active listener trained to empathize with the client and help them set healthy goals. Care Connection staff members are available to help individuals and families with communication, stress or anger management, interpersonal relationships, etc.

The third, and newest, program, PUENTE, is an Hispanic outreach dedicated to help Hispanic residents become comfortable with the United States' culture.

"The diversity of our programs makes the Health Care Foundation unique. Each meets an important need identified in the county. I'm really looking forward to our next decade and to bringing our programs and our community together for the benefit of many," Smith said.

Lowell Owens, president of the foundation's board, said, "The board is excited about Tracie's enthusiasm and experience. We look forward to the next few years as she expands the fund-raising program and sets a new direction for the foundation's programs."

Smith has experience in fund development and management in a nonprofit environment. She resides in rural Kosciusko County with her family.
