Silver Lake Welcomes New Council Members

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

SILVER LAKE - New council members were welcomed and one was named president of the Silver Lake Town Council Tuesday evening.

The three-member council welcomed Linda Baker and Gale Owens to their new positions. Ronald Jones is the third member of the council after he was re-elected in November.

The first order of business in the meeting was to elect a board president, and the three-member council chose Gale Owens to lead them this year.

The council also named department heads for the town. All department heads remain the same as last year: Craig Hollopeter, town marshal; Phil Shalley, street and wastewater superintendent; Joshua Naibauer, water superintendent; and Jasun Blocher, fire chief. Vern Landis will continue to be the town's attorney, and the town will do its banking at Lake City Bank.

In other business, the council:

n Approved a motion to purchase two keypads and have them installed by Bob's Lock and Key of Rochester. The locks will be installed on the employee entrance at the town hall and a door at the main fire station. The cost of the locks for the push-bar-style doors is $1,418.60.

n Approved a motion to hire Green Banana of Warsaw to design and set up a Web site for the town. The town currently does not have a Web site, and the $1,091 price for the job includes on-site training for town employees to learn how to maintain the site once it is up and running. Since silverlake.com already is taken, the preliminary idea for the town's Web address is www.townofsilverlake.com

n Gave permission for the part-time town office employee to expand her hours as needed to finish the census project. Currently, she works 20 hours per week, but the census project and end-of-year business warrant more hours. Once things slow down, the hours will go back to normal. The council gave permission for the employee to work up to 32 hours a week if needed.[[In-content Ad]]
