SILVER LAKE – The Silver Lake Town Council updated the status of several grants at their monthly meeting April 8.
Town Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley said the Sediment Removal Planning Grant has been approved through the Department of Natural Resources and she showed the five areas she and Doug Nusbaum from DNR came up with. These target areas include: the canal east and north of Bouse Drive, the canal between Neher Road and Eldora Drive, the boat launch at Shutt Avenue, the canal north of Edgewater Drive and the canal between Silver Lake and North Little Lake.
Conley also asked citizens to let her know of other areas that need to be looked at for dredging. There will be a meeting to discuss these other areas announced at a later date.
An update on the Blight Elimination Grant was also discussed at the meeting. Town attorney Scott Reust is preparing notices of the certificate sale on the properties to be obtained from the program. Conley said they have to wait 120 days, but “we’ve started the steps to gain deeds to the properties.”
Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter said the police vehicle grant for USDA Rural Development has been accepted and the vehicle has been ordered. He said they are unsure of when they will have the vehicle in their possession. He also said the permits have been received for the road closures for Silver Lake Days.
In other business, The Pavilion Grant Contractor Agreement was signed by council President Chad Miner. The construction will start next  Thursday.
Water Superintendent Joey McNeal gave the board the water emergency plan and the board will pass it at the next meeting if approved. He also said he will be flushing hydrant at the end of the April.
Assistant Fire Chief John Conley said the department will host a hog roast May 23 from 3 to 6 p.m., featuring an auction with prizes. On June 28, there will be a department golf outing and so far, 16 teams have signed up. There will be a public hearing and second reading for the water rates and sewer rates ordinances on May 13.
The next regular town board meeting is scheduled for May 13 at 7 p.m. in the Silver Lake Town Hall.[[In-content Ad]]
