Silver Lake Moves Toward USDA Grant

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

SILVER LAKE – The Silver Lake Town Council came one step closer to receiving a USDA Rural Development/Police Car grant Wednesday evening at its monthly meeting.
Silver Lake Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter said the grant would cover 55 percent of the total cost for a new vehicle.
“It’s a pretty significant amount,” Hollopeter said.
On Halloween, one of the town’s police vehicles was struck along the driver side. Hollopeter said they plan to have the Durango back in service soon, but he doesn’t plan to paint the stripes back on in hopes of receiving the grant. If the grant is not received, he said they would have the stripes painted back next year.
“We really don’t want to go through the winter without four-wheel drive,” Hollopeter said.
Hollopeter said they are still in the application phase and will not know if they received the grant until the middle of December. If approved, they plan to purchase a Ford F-150.
With the holidays right around the corner, the Silver Lake Town Board donated $250 to the Silver Lake Lion’s Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner is scheduled for Nov. 27 at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. For reservations for the free dinner, call 260-352-2923 or 574-267-5858.
The year-end meeting for the town council is scheduled for Dec. 17. The meeting was moved from its original date due to Santa Clause visiting the Old Fire Station Dec. 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Chili, tea and punch will be provided and Santa will be giving small gifts to children who visit.[[In-content Ad]]
