As officers arrived at the scene, the driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene and ran southwest into a wooded area.
While officers were setting up a perimeter around the area to search for the driver, Lt. Chris McKeand learned the man was at a residence at the intersection of Ind. 15 and Union Street, where Thompson was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
Upon further investigation, officers learned Thompson also was wanted on a Kosciusko County warrant for resisting/fleeing law enforcement along with warrants from both Miami and Wabash counties as well.
Thompson also faces theft charges from a incident that occurred just before the accident.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Thompson reportedly was trying to steal gasoline from 376 W. CR 400S when property owner Tom Heiman drove up.
Thompson allegedly got in his pickup truck, drove through a bean field and got on CR 400W. When Thompson tried to turn south onto Kinsey Road at the intersection, he hit a southbound car driven by Tiffany Nettleton, 30, Claypool.
Nettleton suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment.
Thompson was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 1:33 p.m. Monday on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, resisting/fleeing law enforcement and failure to appear. His bond was set at $10,750.
Information about the theft of the gasoline has been forwarded to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office and more charges are possible.
Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Claypool Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS, Warsaw Police Department and the Claypool Police Department.
