SILVER LAKE - The Silver Lake Town Council tied up loose ends in its final meeting of 2004 Tuesday evening.

After approving Resolution 12-01-04 that allows the transfer of money between appropriations to finalize the budget, the Silver Lake Town Council set aside funds to replace a bridge near the Lions Club Building in town. The project includes a 12-foot bridge and the grating necessary to drain properly. Once finished, the only way to get under the bridge will be by removing a grate, making the area safer for children. The council encumbered $9,795 from the storm sewer budget to cover the project. The council will propose sharing the cost of the replacement with the Lions Club at the Jan. 3 Lions Club meeting.

The council also decided to hire Construction Service of Indiana to insert valves in pipes outside the water plant. Construction Service of Indiana had the lowest bid on the project at $8,400. Utility Supply Co. (Peru) bid $11,582.50 and EJP (Wabash) bid $12,275 on the project.

In the last item of the short meeting, the council approved $3,900.76 for equipment for the fire department. The money will purchase a monitor ($1,930), a pumper test ($165), 50-feet of hose ($276.76), extrication equipment ($700) and half a skid of fire smothering foam ($829). The original proposal included two new fire suits for $1,650 each ($3,300 total), but the council did not have the funds to cover the suits.

"Due to the lack of money, we are going to back off the two suits until next year," said council member Stanley Williams.

Silver Lake Town Council members are Stan Williams, president; Tom Waite and Ron Jones. Town clerk is Angie Glass. [[In-content Ad]]

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are for people over the age of 70.5 years old. Unlike other distributions, which are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow for a tax-free distribution from an IRA, provided that the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity.
