Silver Lake Delays Decision On Request To Place RV On Lot

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

SILVER LAKE - A person who wants to put an RV on an empty lot in Silver Lake will have to wait a bit longer for permission.

Tuesday night, the Silver Lake Town Council looked at a proposal to put a recreational vehicle on an empty lot at 105 N. High Street. The RV fits the town's ordinance for size, but since it was manufactured in 2002, it does not meet the town's requirements for age. According to Silver Lake's ordinance, mobile homes more than 5 years old cannot be moved into town. The ordinance does not specify any requirements for recreational vehicles.

Phyllis Tibbs, owner of the RV, plans to set it up like a mobile home, complete with skirting and a deck. She also plans to keep the RV at the location permanently.

Council members tabled a decision on the proposal so they could visit the site and get an idea of what kind of pad would be necessary for the residence.

Council members said they feared that more people would want to put RVs on property instead of mobile homes.

If approved, the RV will have to have permanent water and sewer hookups approved by the town. A flexible hose would not meet requirements.

After discussion about the proposal, council president Linda Baker said, "I am not comfortable making a decision at this time."

Once more information is received and the site is inspected, the council will revisit the issue.

In other business, the council:

n Approved a cellular telephone agreement for employees. Town employees will pay for any extra services they wish to have on their telephone, and all employees will pay a $10 monthly fee for personal use of the phone. Any overages also will be paid by employees.

n Approved a motion to make electrical repairs to station three. There are security issues because there are no lights outside the building, and there are only one or two lights inside. The repairs will cost approximately $1,600.

n Discussed having a golf cart ordinance in town. According to the state, if a town does not have an ordinance regarding golf carts, it is not legal to drive them on town streets. An ordinance will be drawn up and discussed at the town's next meeting.

n Approved a motion to pay for half of three mobile radio units for the fire department. The other half of the cost will be covered by Lake Township. The total cost for the three radios is $3,8250.

n Heard that since the band Shake N Bake was unable to play because of rain at Silver Lake Days, the make up concert will be July 31. High Street will be closed from 5 p.m. to about midnight for the show.[[In-content Ad]]
