Silver Lake Council Hears Grants Update

The pavilion at Rambler Park is now completed and additional ramps and steps are set to be completed in the near future.
Properties identified as blighted have 60 days before moving forward with the grant and then bids will be taken for demolition. The grant for this project allows for the purchase of the property, demolition and aftercare of the property.
Clerk-treasurer Tonya Conley said this process should move rather quickly, and the properties will go through required inspections and the bidding process before being torn down, which should not take long.
During the meeting, the Sediment Removal Planning Grant was also discussed. The town council heard two proposals. The first was from Sediment Removal Solutions for $9,000 with 10 percent of in-kind services for the town. The second proposal was from Integrated Lakes Management for $8,850 with 10 percent in-kind services for the town.
Conley said in-kind services can be things such as providing a boat to use for the lake, or providing documentation for lakes and more. The board approved the proposal from Sediment Removal Solutions.
Conley said SRS was chosen for two reasons: it is based in Syracuse and the board wanted to stay close to home; and this firm has experience with Silver Lake through aquatic weed control.
Conley said a town meeting will be scheduled to discuss the sites of examination and the in-kind services and to answer any questions from the public. This meeting will be announced as soon as the date is set.
Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter said they had a successful Silver Lake Days. He also said the new police vehicle is complete with exception of the brush guard which will be done this week. Laura Hamann from USDA Rural Development will present the grant check today.
In other business:
Water Superintendent Joey McNeal said they are working diligently to keep up with sewer alarms due to heavy rainfall recently.
Assistant Fire Chief John Conley said the golf outing fundraiser was a success and the department is hosting a fish fry Aug. 8.
The next regular town council meeting is at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 in the Silver Lake Town Hall.
