Council members signed a contract between Lake Township and the Silver Lake Fire Department that would give the town fire protection through the end of the year. Within the contract, the town of Silver Lake will split costs with the fire department.
“We will be splitting the cost of clothing, insurance and other things the department needs,” said council member Chad Miner.
At the previous meeting the council approved a short-term disability plan for employees of the town.
On Tuesday, the council implemented the ordinance that will give any employee who cannot work because of an illness 43 percent of their pay for 12 weeks. Any further coverage must be obtained through the town’s insurance company.
The council also passed a resolution that would change the number of times annually the town would pay into the employee retirement fund.
“The town used to pay into the fund four times a year,” Miner said. “But with this resolution the town will now pay into the fund twice a year. The amount of money being put into the fund will not change, just the timing in which we put the money in the fund.”
The town street department informed the council that it purchased the sewer pumps to replace the old ones that had been going out at the sewer station. The approximate cost of the two pumps was $5,800 each. Some of the parts are in and the town is waiting on the rest of them to put the pumps together.
Rick Elliot briefly spoke and brought up the idea of having a business and economic development meeting between the Silver Lake Town Council and local business leaders.
“This is something that I think we are going to start doing,” Miner said. “We just have to get everything in place.”
The next meeting of the Silver Lake Town Council will be June 12 at 7 p.m. at the Silver Lake Town Hall.
