Shriver Stepping Down As Valley's Head Football Coach

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley High School football coach Jeff Shriver is stepping down, though he doesn’t want to completely walk away.
Shriver, who in the fall completed his eighth season as Valley’s head coach, said in a phone conversation Monday night that he turned his resignation in Friday.
He said he met with his players a few weeks ago.
Shriver, whose teams were 47-34 overall and 41-15 in the Three Rivers Conference with three league championships, cited family reasons for his resignation.
“I turned in my resignation as head coach because I want to spend more time with my family,” said Shriver, who before taking the head coaching position was a longtime assistant for Scott Bibler. “My son, Ben, wants to play college football somewhere in the fall, and I want to see him play. My daughter plays middle school volleyball, my wife is the coach, and I want to be able to see those games.”
Because the demands on a head coach are so time-consuming, Shriver is stepping down as head coach.
The Tippecanoe Valley football program, however, is a big part of Shriver’s life, and he would like to see Bibler return as coach, and he would like to stay on the staff as an assitant.
“Scott and I have worked together for a long time,” said Shriver. “When he was the head coach, I was his assistant. He wanted to step down so he could watch his daughter play sports. A couple years ago he came back as an assistant for me. Now, I want to see my kids’ games. I’d love to see Scott get the job. I’d like to be his assistant again, and still have time with my family.”
Tippecanoe Valley’s next school board meeting is scheduled for Monday, and the board is expected to act on the resignation then.
“Once the resignation goes to the board on Monday, we’ll post the position,” said TVHS Athletic Director Duane Burkhart. “We’ll see what kind of response we get, and we’re also confident that we have one or two internal candidates.”
Burkhart went on the record as saying Bibler has expressed interest in the job.
“Scott has expressed interest to Kirk Doehrmann, our principal, and to myself,” said Burkhart. “Scott has been the head coach for us before, and he would be one of the internal candidates.”
Burkhart said he didn’t have a timetable for naming a new head coach, but said “the sooner, the better.”[[In-content Ad]]
