Shoebat Part 2

The following is a continuation of my previous letter regarding the credibility of Walid Shoebat after his appearance at The Awakening tent meetings last week. I have divided it into two parts because as one letter, it exceeds the Times-Union’s 500-word “Letters to the Editor” policy. Hopefully, I am now complying with that policy.
In the Sept. 20, 2011, telephone interview, Mr. Riordan questioned me regarding the Muslim issues. Paraphrasing, I stated that the Muslim influence is having a huge impact in this country and I was questioning whether or not it is a positive thing. I do not, nor did I say, that I hated, or even dislike the Muslim people. As a matter of fact, as a Christian, I love them, as I do all peoples of all nationalities, race or religion. I just have a problem with their teachings and their influence on our society. I am not alone.
Past president of Grace College and Seminary, and popular local author, Dr. John Davis’ notes in his book “Islam Terrorism & The Middle East”, that in the Koran (Qur’an), the Muslim holy book, that if you are a true follower of Islam, then you believe that anyone who does not become a Muslim is an “infidel” and deserves to be killed. This is just one of their many horrific beliefs.
Dr. R.C. Sproul, noted author and speaker, states in his book, “The Dark Side Of Islam”, “many atrocities have occurred in times past in the name of Christianity, however, none were following, and were actually betraying, the teachings of Christ. But when Muslims engage in violence, murder, and other acts of terrorism, they can legitimately claim that they are following the commands of God as found in the Qur’an and in the example of Mohammad and his teachings. This represents a major distinction between Christianity and Islam”.
At the end of the news article, Dan Riordan said that Mr. Shoebat had not returned his call. Prior to Shoebat’s speaking engagement here, we invited a Times-Union reporter to a private interview with Shoebat. The offer was declined because of other commitments the reporter had and that there were no other reporters available when Shoebat was in town.
Hopefully, this is a major step in clearing up both Mr. Shoebat’s credibility and my own position regarding this issue.
