Complaints of a shirtless, shoeless man around Burger King and Dollar Inn led to the arrest of the man, and a woman that was with him was taken to another police agency for questioning.

Dean Curtis Gray, 37, of Mentone, was booked into the Kosciusko Cou`nty Jail on charges of possession of a narcotic drug/cocaine and resisting or fleeing law enforcement. His bond was set at $3,000.

Two calls about the man came in just a few minutes apart at approximately 6:30 a.m. Monday. A Burger King employee told police that the man was wearing only a pair of pants and that he had a knife in his back pocket. A Dollar Inn employee said the man was staying at the motel and was complaining about men coming through holes in the ceiling trying to rob him.

According to a Warsaw Police Department report, Gray made similar statements to police when they approached him outside Dollar Inn. When asked if he had a knife, Gray handed the weapon over in a nonthreatening manner, and gave police a syringe and a plastic bag containing what was believed to be marijuana. He then allowed police to search him.

Police reportedly located three pipes used for smoking cocaine in a front pants pocket and a wallet in each of Gray's back pants pockets. He then allegedly ran from police, but was tackled a short distance away. Police continued to search Gray's pockets and reportedly found $372 cash and a rock of cocaine in a plastic bag. Gray later told police he ran because didn't want them "to know what he had on him."

A preliminary test of the contraband from Gray's pockets showed positive for marijuana, weighing 2 grams, and cocaine, weighing 8 grams. The items will be sent to the Indiana State Police lab for final analysis.

Gray suffered a dislocated shoulder and a cut to his forehead during the incident. He was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital and released before being booked into the county jail. While at KCH, Gray told hospital staff that he had cocaine and marijuana in his system.

A woman who was at the motel with Gray was taken into custody and turned over to Fort Wayne Police Department authorities for questioning in connection with a stolen car that she and Gray reportedly had with them at Dollar Inn. The FWPD told local authorities that the occupants of the stolen vehicle were to be considered armed - possibly with a knife - and dangerous. They apparently were involved in a criminal incident in Fort Wayne. [[In-content Ad]]
