COLUMBIA CITY - Shirley Ruth Myers, 80, of Etna Troy Township, died at 7:55 p.m. June 5, 2008, in Parkview Whitley Hospital, where she was admitted in the afternoon.

She was born Aug. 31, 1927, in Kosciusko County to Fred and Olive Ivans Long. On July 19, 1952, she married Claude V. Myers, who died Jan. 12, 2001.

They made their home in Leesburg until 1960 when they moved to a farm in Etna Troy Township, Whitley County. She spent time in Kosciusko County and Illinois. She was employed at Liberty Cafe, Warsaw, for more than five years, United Telephone Company for more than four years and Walker's Tennaco Automotive for eight years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of Etna United Methodist Church, formerly the Rebekah Lodge, Etna.

Surviving are five daughters: Wendy G. Myers, Brenda J. (and spouse Richard) Boles, and Cindy L. Myers, all of Columbia City; Deborah A. (and spouse Louis) Slabach, Shipshewana; and Phyllis J. (and spouse Larry) Wright, Plymouth; four sons: Steve G. (and spouse Patty) Myers, Syracuse; Daniel A. and Robert I. Myers, both of Etna; and H. Lee (and spouse Joyce) Myers, LaFayette; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two half sisters, Verna Hathaway and Vera Drudge, both of Pierceton; and two stepbrothers, William F. Long and Russell H. Long, both of Warsaw. She was preceded in death by twin great-grandsons, a great-granddaughter, two brothers, a stepbrother and two stepsisters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with the Rev. Karen Biddle officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Wilmot.

Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
