The department said theft reports have swelled recently, many involving stolen metals as the market price for the scrap steadily increases.
The office said it has seen a spike in thefts from residences, even during daylight hours, in which various metal objects are being stolen from yards and farm pastures such as older plows and discs. Deputies have also investigated many thefts from newly constructed homes reportedly being robbed of building supplies such as recently installed copper wiring and waterlines, the department said.
The sheriff’s department said detectives are working closely with local metal salvage yards in curbing the illegal trend.
In response to the activity, the sheriff’s department is asking the public to contact the sheriff's department if they have any information involving the recent thefts, and urging residents to contact law enforcement if they see vehicles or individuals and suspect criminal activity might be occurring.[[In-content Ad]]
