'She Loves Me' Sizzles At Triton

BOURBON -Ê"She Loves Me." She loves me not. "She Loves Me." She loves me not.
Whatever she feels for you, she'll get the hint how you feel about her if you take her to see Triton Jr./Sr. High School's fall musical, "She Loves Me."
Set in a 1930s Hungary parfumerie called Maraczek's, the comedy is a love story about two clerks who bicker like crazy at work. They're also corresponding with one another, unknowingly, through the Lonely Hearts Club. Playing the clerks in the hate-love relationship are Ryan Schori, a senior, as Georg Nowack, and junior Betsy Price, as Amaila Balsash.
Price said her character "is a very innocent, passionate woman." She wants a job, gets one at the parfumerie and then her life changes.
"It's a 1930s version of 'You've Got Mail.' It's very good," said Price of the play.
Schori describes Georg as "basically, he's a real nice guy who takes a lot upon himself." He's unappreciated at the job where he works and when someone says something to him, he often doesn't talk back.
Other leads in the play include Parker Terry as the delivery boy, Ben Speicher as the hard-working serious clerk and Tim Speicher as ladies' man Kodaly, who is wooing fellow clerk Ritter, played by senior Kylie Edmonds.
Edmonds said Ritter is "a bit of a worldy woman. In the synopsis, it says Ritter's been around the block a couple of times - literally."
Ritter is not smart with guys, she said, but late in the play, Ritter decides she wants to change that.
If Ritter is "worldly," then Tim Speicher said his character "is sleazy." He cheats on his boss' wife, dumps his girlfriend and then gets back with her. Speicher said Kodaly is a jerk and obnoxious.
"She Loves Me" also features a chorus of 20 students, ranging in grades from seventh to 12th. The chorus learned the Tango for the play.
Edmonds said the play is "really fun. There's a lot of little jokes in it."
The music is really good, she said, and with the setting being 1930s Hungary, that makes it more interesting. "I think it's different. I really like the clothes." The names take a little getting used to in the play, she said, but the play holds truths which could be set anywhere, anytime. "It's nice to have something different."
Price agreed, saying, "I love the setting. I like the clothes."
Tim Speicher said he likes the play and the music. "I don't have to do anything. I just get to goof around," talk big and hit on the women. The play's music is something most people are probably not used to hearing but it was written by the same man who did "Fiddler on the Roof."
He said everyone should come see the play "because it will be something people haven't seen before."
Ryan Schori agreed, saying, "It's something different and original and people probably haven't seen (anything like it) before. Give it a chance."
Heather N. Leichty is the director, with Susan Dietzel as assistant director.
"She Loves Me" will be presented Nov. 8-9 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. in the school's auditorium.
Tickets are available pre-sale from any cast member for $4, general admission, or free for kids in kindergarten and younger. At the door, tickets will be $5.
