State treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock spoke in Warsaw Tuesday night about his run for senate.

Mourdock spoke during a forum organized by local tea party group, Kosciusko Silent No More, at New Life Christian Church and World Outreach, Warsaw.

Approximately 80 people attended the forum Tuesday night.

Mourdock is running against Richard Lugar for the senate seat in the May 2012 primary.

Mourdock announced Feb. 22 in Indianapolis that he is seeking the senate seat.

"I had prayerful thought on entering the race, and I'm convinced I'm the best person in the state to take on this race," Mourdock said.

Mourdock said he respects Lugar, but said he does not support Lugar supporting the Obama administration and Lugar's vote in support of the DREAM Act that would give special priviledges to children of illegal aliens.

The bill would provide conditional permanent residency to certain illegal and deportable alien students who graduated from U.S. high schools

"It is not right when people are picked by their race and gender to say they get specific benefits," Mourdock said.

He said he is running for Senate to protect those who have not yet been born who will bear the burden of debt that will be given to them.

Mourdock said he is a geologist by trade, and worked 31 years in the energy business.

"I look at the financial condition of this state every day in my office and my blood is running a bit cold with this $14.2 trillion debt we are carrying," Mourdock said.

Mourdock spoke about the Chrysler bankruptcy and said he has no regret in standing up for the rule of the law.

Mourdock filed suit to stop the Chrysler bankruptcy on behalf of the State Teacher's Retirement Fund and the State Police Retirement Fund along with the Major Moves Construction Fund.

Mourdock said campaigns are about contrast and he said there are many contrasts between he and Lugar.

He said one of the greatest differences is Lugar pushing the Obama agenda and carrying the title of President Barack Obama's favorite Republican senator.

"I can guarantee you that is a title I will never hold," Mourdock said.

Upcoming events KSNM has planned include a Warsaw mayoral debate March 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. at New Life Christian Church and World Outreach; Senator Lugar's Road To Retirement Rally April 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Kosciusko County Courthouse square; and a Meet the Candidates night for local election April 19 at New Life Church from 7 to 9 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]

Sheriff Addressed Issues In The Jail Since Taking Office
Once taking office I knew how important it was going to be to have the right leadership in every division of the office, and the jail was certainly no exception. Upon taking office, I appointed Lt. Kevin Gelbaugh as the jail commander and Chad Marsh as the assistant jail commander, and to say I am proud of all their work and accomplishments would be an understatement.
