Michael Searfoss was appointed by Kosciusko County Democrat Chairman John Bonitati today to fill the Leesburg clerk-treasurer seat.
Searfoss, a Leesburg resident for 20 years, will fill the vacancy left by Jan Carter, who resigned last month due to health reasons. Bonitati was voted chairman by county Democrats May 18 to replace Terry Bartley, who left citing time constraints.
Searfoss and Bonitati signed papers this morning at the Kosciusko County clerk’s office at the Justice Building to make Searfoss’s appointment official.
“He knows a lot of people in the town and has the skills to do the job,” Bonitati said. “We want to continue to make sure we serve at or above the expectations for everyone, and I think Michael will do a great job and make sure that service level is what voters expect.”
Searfoss’s duties began today and continue until Dec. 31, 2015.
Bonitati said he appointed Searfoss because he felt he had excellent financial background.
Searfoss served as financial secretary at the Syracuse United Auto Workers Union 1405 from 2002 to 2007. He also served as the union’s trustee, auditing the organization’s financial records.
“I look forward to keeping everything in order and getting people involved in the town,” Searfoss said.
Searfoss is married to Sally, and they have four children and six grandchildren.[[In-content Ad]]
