The KC Depot was recently landscaped as an Eagle Scout project organized by Scout Thomas Friddle, Warsaw, the Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management board heard Tuesday.

Executive director Sue Studebaker said the work cost the district less than $250 and several companies donated items for the project.

Studebaker said the Office of Indiana State Chemist is offering a free service to collect and dispose of pesticides brought by certified applicators Sept. 15. This collection is not open to the general public as large amounts of preregistered pesticides are expected.

The board also:

• Approved a 2005 budget of $271,113.

Salaries and benefits totaled $59,033; $7,360 for supplies; and $188,420 for services, which include $103,000 for recycling services.

• Heard Studebaker did not attend a household waste operator recertification training conference in Florida and plans to attend an educator's conference in Anderson next week.

• Heard four recycling contractors attended a bid specifications meeting Aug. 25. Stafford Solid Waste, Hemco, Wabash Valley and Waste Management attended. Bids for the new contract will be opened Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. The contract will be awarded Nov. 1.

District board members are George Clemens, David Delp, Avis Gunter, Brad Jackson, John Kinsey, Ron Truex and Ernie Wiggins.

The next meeting is Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. at 220 S. Union St., Warsaw. [[In-content Ad]]
