The recipients of five Memorial Scholarships were announced at Debra Collier's School of Dance recently.
The scholarships, named in memory of former students Lori Rigsby, Jacquline Egolf, Ashleigh Bruner and Emma Martin and former dance parent Cindy Crane, were developed by the studio to offer opportunities to students through financial assistance and also encourage students through the recognition of their abilities and achievements.
Applicants were divided into age categories and each submitted a report on how they would spend the day with a dancer or choreography that has inspired them.
The recipients are Ellen Davenport, daughter of Chip and Shawna Davenport, Warsaw; Brielle Fehlmann, daughter of Jorg and Beth Fehlmann, Warsaw; Abby Gibson, daughter of Angie Winter and Jason Gibson, Warsaw; Jane Katherine Hanes, daughter of Mark and Lauri Hanes, Winona Lake; and Claire Walker, daughter of Michael and Pam Walker, Leesburg. Each received a class scholarship from the studio for the 2015-16 annual season.
Debra Collier's School of Dance has been educating students since 1977 and offers a variety of classes for dancers of all ages and levels, according to a provided press release. The studio provides opportunities for students to develop their interest in dance, including performance groups and fun monthly themes.  Registration is currently open for the studio's fall session.
