NORTH MANCHESTER - Hourly employees, bus drivers and the school nurse at Manchester Community Schools soon will see an increase in their paychecks.
Tuesday night at the regular meeting, the Manchester Community School Board of Trustees approved a motion to increase hourly employees' salaries by an average of 3.5 percent.
After more than a year of research and planning, Business Manager Steve Shumaker proposed a plan to eliminate the inconsistent increment raise system for hourly employees. The number of hourly job classifications will be reduced and after this year, hourly employees will receive the same raise as other employees.
Bus drivers at Manchester Community Schools will see their daily pay rate increase from $60.35 per day to $62.45 per day. Their hourly trip rate will increase from $9 to $10.
Superintendent Diana Showalter suggested the school nurse, M.A. Hire, receive a 5-percent raise in salary. The board approved all the pay increases with a 6-0 vote.
In other business, the board:
• Approved the 2007 budget general fund, debt service fund, retirement/severance bond debt service fund, capital projects fund, transportation operating fund, bus replacement fund and special education fund. The total proposed 2007 budget is $14,585,095, an increase of approximately $233,000 from 2006.
• Approved hiring Denise Eades, classroom assistant at Manchester Elementary School; Daphne Steele, an MCS substitute bus driver; Trina Semler, weight room supervisor at MJSHS; Becky Parrett, part-time cook at MJSHS; and Carol Miller, technology aide at MJSHS.
