SCHIPS

Usually, I agree with you, Gary, but on this SCHIPS thing, I'm going to have to disagree.
State health insurance for the children of the working poor is fine, but $40,000-$60,000 a year is not poor. Anyone making that much money a year most likely has an insurance plan through work and should be able to afford an insurance program, regardless. Of course, they might have to give up their gas-guzzling SUV and make more conservative financial decisions, but so be it.
If Bush vetoes this bill, which I certainly hope he does, it just may well be the first thing he has gotten right. And, yes, I agree it would just be one more step toward government-run health care and that's the last thing we need, more government control in our lives.
