It hasn't taken long into President Hussein's first year in office for his true nature to show itself. In two separate articles found over the weekend in another publication, our president reveals the arrogance most associated with tax-and-spend liberals who are also soft on national defense.
The first article, titled "Obama entourage is a bit too showy", is credited as a Scripps Howard editorial. The article says, in part, "Obama arrived with 500 staff in tow, including 200 Secret Service agents, a team of six doctors, the White House chef and kitchen staff with the president's own food and water."
The article goes on to catalog such things as the fleet of vehicles brought with the entourage (35 total), speech writers and 12 teleprompters.
Now, granted, we expect our president to travel in style, and to have adequate security. But 200 secret service, 35 vehicles, and his own chef, kitchen staff, and food? Authentic European cuisine isn't good enough? Hey, we're paying for this, folks.
The other article, written by Jennifer Loven for the Associated Press, and headlined "Obama pushes NATO for support in Afghanistan", is straight-forward reporting and actually kind of bland. However, one short paragraph stood out.
"It's not just a matter of more resources, it's a matter of more effectively using the resources we have," Obama said.
This statement, made in the context of the NATO meetings, seems to be designed to placate what few allies we have left regarding any future involvement in Afghanistan. It also begs the question of when bailout money will be effectively used.
Hopefully, the statement doesn't mean our president will downgrade the military. But, since we can't even call it a war on terror any more, why should we believe President Hussein will push NATO for more support, or that he will increase support and financial backing here in the U.S. for our military? The idea of having wounded troops pay for their own medical care was recently discussed. Thankfully, it went nowhere. This very thought process alone, though, speaks volumes concerning liberal attitudes toward the military as a whole.
So, we have a president whose travel demands are more excessive than any rock stars could ever be; a commander-in-chief whose commitment to the military is questionable; who thinks nothing of mortgaging the future of the next two generations.
Remember, we're not even six months into President Hussein's first year.
