Gary Green (L), purveyor of fine hardwood and softwood lumber, Syracuse, had his portable, 32-horse diesel engine band saw at the WACC to show classes how a log is sawed into boards.
He told students Indiana is in a hardwood region, and the state is blessed with resources. The value of wood is determined by its grade, which is determined by lack of defects or knots.
