Sara Kay Powers, 76, of Richardson, Texas, died Feb. 6, 2013, in her residence.
She was born March 6, 1936, in Muncie, to John and Katharyn McSherry. She married Lt. Col. John A. “Shorty” Powers.
She spent most of her childhood in Knox and her summers at Goose Lake, south of Warsaw. She attended DePauw University and graduated from Indiana University in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in English composition.
She was the women’s editor at the Indianapolis News when she married John and moved to Houston, Texas, in 1976 to work as a copy editor at the Dallas Times Herald. She left the newspaper in 1982 to work as an editor for Electrospace and later for Texas Instruments and Raytheon.
After she retired in 2004, she divided her time between Goose Lake and her home in Richardson, Texas. In Warsaw, she was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church and loved gardening, reading, calligraphy and water aerobics.
Surviving are her loving companion, Kerry Peter Moskop; a daughter, Elizabeth McSherry Powers; a son, Anthony Bennett “Ben”; two granddaughters, Madeline and Caitlyn; and a sister Becky.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Palestine Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Cindy Gackenheimer of Celebration Church, Winona Lake.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
