NORTH MANCHESTER – Sara Ellen Heckman, 98, of Indianapolis, died at 4:37 p.m. March 16, 2013, in The Forum at the Crossing,  Indianapolis.
She was born Jan. 13, 1915, in Tipp City, Ohio, to Roy and Orpha Werking Studebaker. She met and married Paul Heckman June 25, 1938 in Tipp City. He died in 1973.
She was one of six children who grew up on her parent’s farm. After attending Manchester College, she taught elementary school.  After Paul’s untimely death in an auto accident in 1973, she moved to Sebring, Fla., and operated the Sunset Beach Motel.  She retired at the age of 93 and moved to Indianapolis, where she resided at Clearwater Commons until her death. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren, a former member of the Women’s Club and Tri Kappa Sorority, both of North Manchester, and a former Cub and Brownie Scout leader.
Surviving are two children, Stephen (and spouse Paula) Heckman, Sunny Isles Beach, Fla., and Kay (and spouse Tom) Hervey, Indianapolis; two grandsons, Jim (and spouse Vicki) Heckman, Fort Wayne, and Dean Heckman, Nashville, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Carson and Caitlyn Heckman, both of Fort Wayne.  She also was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Ruth Crowe, Miriam Binkley, Lois Bixler and Mary Lou Schutz; and a brother, Phil Studebaker.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester, with Dr. Carolyn Scanlan officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.  
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
