PIERCETON – Bob Sanders and Judy Snipes received the Republican Hall of Fame Man and Woman of the Year awards Thursday night.
They received the awards during the Kosciusko Republican Hall of Fame Dinner at the Old Train Depot in Pierceton. The dinner was attended by approximately 80 Republicans.
Jean Northenor presented the awards. The awards honor those who have made contributions to the Republican party, and have been presented since 1972.
Sanders was recognized for his service to the county. He is president of Kosciusko County Council and owner of Bodkin Abstract.
Northenor said Sanders is a respected businessman and is well known around the courthouse.
Snipes previously served in the county auditor’s office as deputy auditor and answered phones and greeted people at the courthouse.
“She had the kindest voice you would want to hear if you had problems with county government,” Northenor said.
Sanders and Snipes thanked the Republican party for the awards.
Randy Girod, Kosciusko County GOP chair, thanked Sanders and Snipes for their service to the party.
Dwayne Sawyer, Indiana auditor, was the keynote speaker during the dinner.
Dave Wolkins, State Representative, introduced Sawyer.
Sawyer was named in August by Governor Mike Pence to replace Tim Berry as state auditor. Sawyer has served as auditor for the past four weeks, and Thursday was his first speaking engagement as auditor.
He will be on the November 2014 ballot for the auditor’s seat if he wins the state convention in June 2014.
Sawyer previously served on the Brownsburg Town Council since 2009, and was council president since 2012.
Sawyer has a computer technology degree from Purdue University. He has worked for Eli Lilly, Dow Agro Sciences and Roche Diagnostics. He has worked in many industries and on various computer systems including financial, accounting and payroll systems.
Sawyer said the last four weeks as auditor have been a wonderful experience helping to keep Indiana the fiscal envy of the nation.
“When it comes to government, it’s about service. I am here to serve. That has been and continues to be my personal motto,” Sawyer said.
He said he hopes to win the 2014 election for auditor to make life better for his children and the state.
“I look at my three kids everyday and think about their futures. I think about what opportunities will be in front of them,” Sawyer said.
He said the GOP party, through a focused vision and policies that promote freedom, will make the future brighter.
“There is only one party that is committed to responsible budgeting, not spending more than we take in, and making sure that future generations aren’t burdened with spending sprees,” Sawyer said.
An upcoming GOP event is the Kosciusko Republican Fish Fry Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds.[[In-content Ad]]
