COLUMBIA CITY - Samuel Wells, 83, of Warsaw, died at 9:45 a.m. Aug. 17, 2009, at Mason Health and Rehab, Warsaw.

He was born Aug. 10, 1926, in Warsaw, to Samuel and Mildred Carrie Hill Wells. In 1946, he married Josephine Reiff Galbreath. In 1963, in Warsaw, he married Geraldine Pressler Hoffer, who preceded him in death.

He was a lifetime Warsaw area resident and attended Warsaw High School. He served in World War II in the Pacific Campaign on the USS Albert Grant. He was a delivery truck driver, retiring from Purity Cylinder Gases Inc. in 1988. He was a member of American Legion Post 49, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126 and Pheasants Forever.

Surviving are a son, Richard (and spouse Frances) Wells, Pierceton; a brother, Max Wells, Kendallville; three stepsons, Dan (and spouse Marlene) Hoffer, Paul (and spouse Judy) Hoffer and Ron (and spouse Loetta) Hoffer all of Warsaw; a grandson; and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with Pastor Brad Cox officiating, and with military honors by members of American Legion Post 49, Warsaw.

Demoney-Grimes Funeral Home, Columbia City, is in charge of arrangements.
