Samuel Okun, 81, of Gardens at Lake City, Warsaw, died at 2:15 a.m. Feb. 5, 2008, in Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake.

He was born April 28, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., to Sol and Bertha Adler Okun. On Nov. 6, 1949, in Los Angeles, Calif., he married Lois Ann Kathren, who survives.

A three-year Kosciusko County resident, he was a police officer at Los Angeles International Airport, California, for many years. He was a World War II U.S. Air force veteran, serving in the 460th Air Corps until his honorable discharge on July 1, 1946. He was awarded the World War II Victory, American Campaign and Good Conduct medals.

Also surviving are a daughter, Wendy (and spouse Ron) Christy, Warsaw; a son, Gary (and spouse Eva) Okun, Los Angeles; two grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Ron Okun, Los Angeles; and a sister, Ann Ratner, San Jose, Calif.

A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military rites by members of American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1126, both of Warsaw.

No calling is planned.
