Salvation Army of Kosciusko County Lts. Esteban and Karen Pommier were reassigned to serve in Indianapolis.
They have served Kosciusko County since June 2011, and their last day in the county will be June 21.
Esteban said he has had an administrative role making sure the organization has effective ways to implement a good financial system and form systems for volunteer management and fundraising.
Karen’s role has been to connect with the community and build relationships with the Women’s Auxiliary and improving programs.
The Pommiers were instrumental in bringing a Pathway of Hope program to Kosciusko County’s Salvation Army. The program assists clients with life skills such as budgeting, education and housing.
They received an email May 15 from the office of Lt. Col. Ralph Bukiewicz, Salvation Army territorial secretary for personnel, that stated their official marching orders are to serve as lieutenants at The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center, Indianapolis. The center is a residential drug treatment facility offering detoxification, outpatient treatment and transitional housing.
Majors William and Patricia Welch will replace the Pommiers. They are coming from the Salvation Army in Galesburg, Ill., and start June 24.
The Pommiers said they will miss serving Kosciusko County.
“We leave this great community knowing we have worked hard at furthering the  mission of the Salvation Army through our services and programs,” Esteban said. “We will always have friends in Kosciusko County. We are grateful to the staff, advisory board, woman’s auxiliary and the many volunteers and supporters who have served faithfully over the past years.”
Karen said she has grown to love Kosciusko County.
“I have the best volunteers and have seen people grow so it’s really hard to leave,” Karen said.
“It has been an extreme blessing to work with Lieutenants Karen and Esteban Pommier these past years. Their passion in their hearts for each person and each program is monumental in their day’s service. The entire staff at the Salvation Army works cooperatively and collectively to further the mission of the Salvation Army as we all share a great respect for our community. The Pommier family will be greatly missed, but our prayers go with them,” Ruth Casner, Salvation Army Woman’s Auxiliary president, said.
Salvation Army Advisory Board member Alan Alderfer also thanked the Pommiers for their service.
“Esteban and Karen have been such amazing examples of what the Salvation Army stands for. They have spent the last four years developing strong relationships, enhancing our community, and helping people in need. We thank them for their loyal and dedicated services,” Alderfer said.
