The property is on the west side of Ind. 15, 650 feet south of Union Street.
Marion Schrock, of Horizon Transport Inc., said his company will store RVs on the property before shipping them to customers. The board unanimously approved Schrock's request after Schrock explained that plans for the land include landscaping and trees as a sound and site buffer.[[In-content Ad]]The board denied a request from James and Willodean Zolman for a variance allowing the construction of a residence 10 feet from the road right of way and 12 feet, 1/4 inch from the edge of a canal. The property is on the west side of EMS B5 Lane, 700 feet south of CR 400N in Tippecanoe Township.
James Zolman told the board that because of the shape of the property, it is impossible to build a residence on the property that would conform with county zoning regulations. County Plan Director Dan Richard said the house the Zolmans planned to build was too big for the property.
"This is a case of trying to make the lot fit the house and it's not working," Richard said.
The board also voted to continue three petitions.
The first was a request, continued to Nov. 13, from Jason Alexander for a variance which would permit allowing a residence accessory to remain 4 feet from the west side property line and 3 feet from the rear property line.
The second was a request, continued to Nov. 13, from Eddie Gawthrop appealing a determination by plan staff that no permit is available to petitioners for an improvement location because the adjacent owners to whom he sold two tracts have not combined them with other tracts they own.
The third request, continued to Dec. 11, was from Rodney Humphrey for a variance allowing a tract of ground on the south side of CR 550N and 1,725 feet west of CR 500W in Prairie Township to remain as created, with access by a 10-feet easement. The variance would include new property lines less than 20 feet to an existing structure on that tract.
The board voted to withdraw a request from Boris Minic for a variance allowing the replacement of a garage 25 feet from the road right of way and 5 feet from the side property line on property on the south side of EMS B40B Lane at the intersection with EMS B40C Lane in Tippecanoe Township.
In other news, the board approved:
n A variance permitting the construction of an attached garage 20 feet from the road right of way on a piece of property on the northeast side of Ind. 13, 140 feet south of Ideal Beach in Turkey Township.
n A variance permitting a new property line to remain 15 feet from a mobile home and 14 feet from a barn on a piece of property on the east side of Old Ind. 13 and 771 feet north of Shoop Road in Washington Township.
n An exception allowing a home-based steel fabrication business with up to 10 seasonal employees in a tract of land zoned agricultural on the west side of Orn Road, 284 feet north of CR 1050N in Jefferson County.
