She was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Cook County, Ill., to Neils and Ingeborg Nyby Bendsen. On June 11, 1949, she married James E. Rowe, who survives.
She was a teacher at North Webster Elementary School for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester. She graduated from Manchester College in 1947, receiving a bachelor’s degree in home economics. She later graduated from Illinois State University in 1969, receiving a master’s degree in reading and education.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth J. (and spouse Bonnee) Rowe, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two daughters, Karen J. (and spouse Randy) Roberts-Sare, North Manchester, and Kay J. (and spouse David) Shain, Pataskala, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Timbercrest Chapel, North Manchester, with Pastor Kurt Borgmann and Joan Deeter officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
Calling is from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
