AKRON – Ruth Ann Gilbertson Bremer, 93, passed away at 7:30 p.m. May 9, 2015, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, where she resided.
She was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Edmund, Wis., to Oscar E. and Carol Draggs Gilbertson. In 1952, she married and later divorced Robert Baird, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 2, 1960, in Grand Rapids, Mich., she married Donald J. Bremer, her husband of over 50 years, who died in 2011.
In her early years, she lived in Edmund; several years in Boulder, Colo.; 50 years in Grand Rapids; and 10 years in Akron and North Manchester. She graduated from Dodgeville High School, Wisconsin, in 1939 and then received her nursing degree in 1946 from Milwaukee General School of Nursing.
She was a registered nurse and took great pride in her work as a nurse and enjoyed reunions with Blodgett Memorial Hospital retired nurses. She had been a member of Wyoming Park United Methodist Church and the Akron United Methodist Church. She loved to encourage others, knitting and Bible studies. Caring for her family and friends gave her much joy.
Surviving are one daughter, Carol (and spouse David) Ellenwood, Rochester; two sons, Douglas Baird, Golden, Colo., and Thomas (and spouse Nan) Baird, Woodland Hills, Calif.; seven grandchildren: Matthew (and spouse Susan) Ellenwood and family; Marc (and spouse Andrea) Ellenwood and family; Kathryn Ellenwood; and Bradley Ellenwood (and Justin McKendry); Patrick, Trevor and Jason Baird; five great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, William Jesse; nieces and nephew, all of Wisconsin; two cousins, Mary Jean Thomas, Dodgeville, and Kent Austin, Verona, Wis.; and special friends: Jim and Bonnie Linscott, Nancy Chapel, Paul and Patty Judd and family, all of Grand Rapids; Maci Callow, North Manchester. Also preceded her in death were her parents and a sister, Barbara Jesse.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peabody Retirement Community with Chaplain Sue Babovec officiating. Burial is in The City of Grandville (Mich.) Cemetery.
Calling is from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the retirement community.
