NAPPANEE - Russell L. Ervin, 93, of 501 E. Broad St., Nappanee, died at 6:38 a.m. Nov. 13, 2008, at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born April 16, 1915, in Locke Township, to William and Mary Anthony Ervin. On Aug. 28, 1937, in Plymouth, he married Wilma Senff, who died March 3, 2004.

He was a lifetime Nappanee resident. He was a graduate of Madison Township School and retired from Mutschler Brothers, Nappanee. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Nappanee American Legion, a former member of the Nappanee Fire Department for 18 years, and helped the Jonah Fish Fry in the Michiana area for more than 40 years.

Surviving are two sons, Russell "Butch" (and spouse Marianne) Ervin and Kenton (and spouse Jill) Ervin, both of Nappanee; a son-in-law, Kent Beehler; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, six sisters and three brothers.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with the Rev. Janet McFall-Brown officiating. Military graveside services by the Nappanee American Legion will be at Union Center Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
