Ruppel's Comments

This letter is for Rep. Bill Ruppel.
Mr. Ruppel, I read with interest your letter in the Times-Union on July 23. Are you out of your mind? At one point, you stated, and I quote, "I wonder if the rebate funds will be counted as income for the federal income tax purposes."
Give me a break. The money we pay in as property taxes have already been taxed - federal, state, county and/or city, as the case may be. The state already taxes any money we get back from federal taxes.
How stupid do you think the people that voted you into office are? I think getting rid of the property tax and going to income and sales tax is not a bad idea. That would hit everybody - the people who rent, the illegal people who don't pay taxes anyway, the deadbeats who sponge off others (I know about them, I have relatives that would take my last penny and ask when I get paid).
If you want to do all of us a favor right now, knock a few hundred dollars off what we have to pay now, and call it even. Put us back to 2005 taxes, at least.
You could also talk to whoever you have to talk to to get the tax bills out to the people in Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. If we paid our taxes the way they get our bills out, we'd all be in jail and there would be nobody to pay for our keep.
