Previous to his career at the statehouse, he served as a member of the Wabash County Council from 1986 to 1992. He was named the Legislator of the Year in 1997 by the Senior Action Coalition.

He said he has enjoyed representing the district and assisting getting constituents' problems solved.

He said a lot of the bills he has co-sponsored and authored have increased time for child molesters, and he fought for veterans' rights.

Ruppel said he believes in a Jefferson-Republican government. He believes in the Constitution, free enterprise, individual freedom, less government intervention and state's rights.

"I'm planning to continue to work for people of this district and fight for the state and my constituents," Ruppel said.

Ruppel has a more than 99 percent role-call voting record.
