He was born March 16, 1931, in Sevierville, Tenn., to Ruben Sullivan and Mary Shepherd Hatcher. On April 29, 1963, in Columbia City, he married Elizabeth Ann Harroff, who survives.
He lived in Tennessee and Kentucky before moving to Indiana in 1962, where he has resided at Blue Lake/Churubusco, Warsaw, Garrett and Silver Lake since 1993. He attended school in Tennessee and Kentucky and served 18 months in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving three bronze stars. He worked at Dana Corp. Churubusco, for 22 years as a material handler, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Am-Vets, Fort Wayne, and Living Hope Ministries, Warsaw.
Also surviving are a son, Herbert Edward Hatcher, Wamego, Kan.; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Pamala Dee) Hoelle, Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters: Clarence and George Hatcher, both of Oswego; Joyce Ann Ellerbee and Linda Gail Cardwell, both of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; Sam Hatcher and Betty Berkey, both Warsaw; and Nick Hatcher, Orlando, Fla. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Services were at 1 p.m. today at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Pastor Wayne Whitaker officiating. Burial was in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam, with graveside military rites by members of Am-Vets and U.S. Army.
