She was born March 4, 1931, in Troy, Ohio, to Harry and Rosella McCrossen Brown. On July 19, 1952, in Troy, she married John Gares Martin Sr., who survives.
She received her bachelor's degree in English from Bryan College, Dayton, Tenn.; received her bachelor's degree in education from Grace College, Winona Lake; and earned her master's degree from Ball State University, Muncie. She started her teaching career in 1955 at Beaver Dam School where she taught English. She retired in 1996 after 30 years at Madison Elementary School, Warsaw. She was a resident of Kosciusko County for 56 years and attended Warsaw Community Church.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband; two daughters, Merry Adams, South Whitley, and Crionna Rose "Crinky" Martin, Warsaw; a son, John G. Jr. (and spouse Paula) Martin, South Whitley; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Eucebia "Cebie" Jones, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Erma Cottrell, Fort Larimie, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, officiated by the Rev. Martin Garber, assisted by the Rev. Bob Divine and J.D. Woods. Private graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
No public calling is planned.
