Ronnie's Good Nature

I have never written a letter to the editor but here goes:
I met Ronnie Weaver, who passed away Feb. 10, 2007, way back in the fall of 1971 in Leesburg while taking my son Jason for a stroller ride one evening. A young teenage boy rode up on his bicycle, started talking a mile a minute and we became fast friends.
Ronnie was a good-natured person who never knew a stranger. He was always glad to see you wherever and whenever he happened to run into you. And if you were uptown very much, it was quite often. Through the years we grew to know Ronnie very well; he not only became a good friend to our family, but it seemed to the entire Leesburg and Warsaw community.
When my son Jason, who grew up around Ronnie, played baseball, and ran the streets with Ronnie passed away in 2003, we put on his headstone "It's not the journey, it's the people you meet along the way." When thinking of Ronnie, I thought how true was that statement.
Ronnie met and befriended many on his journey. He was certainly luck to live in a community were he was accepted and loved for the person that he was ... a kind and gentle soul. In a world where people seem to be so unkind and critical of others, our community took this young man in and showed him kindness that he may have never known outside this community. We are very fortunate to live in a place where people still care.
