He was born to Walt and Francis Dancer Collins, who preceded him in death. His stepmother, Florence "Peg" Collins, preceded him in death. He married Brenda Elkins, who survives in Marion.
He retired from General Motors after 24 years of service as a patten maker. He was a member of International Association of Machinist Aeronautics Space Workers. He and his father owned and operated the Hoosier Pressure Casting and he and his wife owned and operated Bucktown Enterprises and the Bucktown Oasis. He was affectionately called the mayor of Bucktown. He will be remembered as a very creative thinker, spiritual man, musician, loving husband, father, grandfather and exceptional great-grandfather.
Also surviving are two daughters, Debra Collins, Leesburg, and Peggy (and spouse Keith) Kellogg, Warsaw; two sons, Walter R. (and spouse Cathy) Collins and Ronnie (and spouse Tammy) Collins, all of Marion; three sisters, Pat (and spouse Carl) Deeter, Sondra (and spouse Al) Crouch and Becky Johnson, all of Marion; a stepdaughter, Desiree (and spouse Ed) Stephens, Upland; a stepson, Jeff Bretz, Marion; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be a 4 p.m. Friday at Eighth Street Wesleyan Church, 2246 W. 8th St., Marion, with the Rev. Ben Gray officiating.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the church.
Casey Lloyd Funeral Home, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, is in charge of arrangements.
