NAPPANEE - Roger Lee Pittman, 72, of 69416 Beech Road, Nappanee, died at 12:40 p.m. April 1, 2009, in his residence, after a four-year long illness.

He was born March 18, 1937, in Madison Township, to Herbert and Ruth Hunsberger Pittman. On May 5, 1963, in Wakarusa, he married Rachel Marie Leichty, who survives.

He was a lifetime Madison Township area resident and a 1955 Madison High School graduate. He was a farmer and retired in 1999, after 43-1/2 years in tool and die at Nibco. He attended Nappanee Missionary Church and was a former member of Oak Grove Missionary Church, where he served many years on the church board, as deacon and was Sunday school superintendent.

Also surviving are three daughters: Cynthia (and spouse Michael) Leamon, Nappanee; Carmen (and spouse Allen) Rohrer, Elkhart; and Christine (and spouse Ryan) Chupp, Goshen; a son, Stanley (and spouse Laura) Pittman, Yorktown; nine grandchildren; a sister, Janet (and spouse Dave) Buck, Nappanee; and a brother, Larry (and spouse Nancy) Pittman, Osseo, Wis. He was preceded in death by a sister.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nappanee Missionary Church with Pastor Norm Reimer officiating, assisted by Pastor Dave Engbrecht and the Rev. Ruben Chupp. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church chapel and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, is in charge of arrangements.
