Rodeo Cancelled After Huge Brawl Erupts Outside

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

A rodeo held at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds Saturday was shut down early after a brawl erupted just outside the event.

Around 9 p.m., Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputies working security at the grounds noticed a large fight near the bottom of the grandstands, according to a police incident report. At least 12 individuals were brawling, with two in the center of the chaos reportedly refusing to stop fighting when deputies intervened.

Deputy Brad Kellar had to tase one man – Alejandro Bermudez, 41, of 201 Park St., Warsaw – after he did not respond to commands to dismount a man he was fighting beneath him, the report said.

After the fight calmed, Bermudez told Kellar he was trying to break up a fight when the man he was caught fighting with reportedly threw a can of beer at him, prompting him to go “after him”, Kellar wrote in his report.

The sheriff’s department said four deputies originally managed the brawl, then Warsaw police were called in for back-up. By the time officers arrived, most involved in the raucous had fled, the department said.

The sheriff’s department shut the event down before its scheduled end time as a result of the fight.

Also arrested in the melee were: Hector Romero, 27, of Goshen, with whom Bermudez was fighting; Miguel Garcia, 24, of Wyoming, Mich.; and Rose Marie Rangel, 46, of Archbold, Ohio.

A Logansport company had rented the grounds for the rodeo, a fairgrounds official said.[[In-content Ad]]
