Robert Lee Smith Jr., 79, of Winona Lake, died at 8:45 a.m. Sept. 21, 2011, in his residence.

He was born April 12, 1932, in Frederick, Md., to Robert L. Sr. and Madeline Norah Barthlow Smith. On July 1, 1955, in Piqua, Ohio, he married Virginia Lee Lemmon, who survives.

He graduated from Frederick High School in 1951 and Teletype Operators School for the U.S. Air Force in December 1951. He attended the University of Dayton, Ohio, and Grace Seminary, Winona Lake. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was an accountant in Ohio for six years before attending Grace Seminary. During this time he  worked at Uniroyal Inc., Warsaw, where he worked for 28 years, retiring in 1997. He then was office manager for PS Products for six years, before retiring again.

Also surviving are three daughters: Cathy M. Leedy, North Webster; Robin Lee Leffler, Muncie; and Susan K. (and spouse David) Wentzel, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Connie (and spouse Earl) Funk, Atlanta, Ga., and Beverly (and spouse Alan) Stull, Sedona, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren;  and six great-grandchildren.

No services or calling are planned. Burial will be at a later date.

McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
