He was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Burket, to William Lloyd and Bertha Blanche Evans Fitton. On Oct. 26, 1946, in Syracuse, he married Betty Jane Gordy, who survives.
He attended Warsaw High School. In 1937, he began working at United Telephone, Warsaw, retiring as a combination repairman in 1982. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June1942, serving in World War II. He earned the rank of Master Sergeant and was honorably discharged in January 1946. From 1978 until 2010 he and his wife spent the winter seasons in Phoenix, Ariz. He was a member of Warsaw American Legion Post 49.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years; two daughters, Jane Volker, Phoenix, and Lee Ann (and spouse Keith) Lafountain, Warsaw; two grandchildren, Jill Volker, Phoenix, and Nathan Lafountain, Warsaw; a great-granddaughter, Kaedence Zellmer, Warsaw; a sister, Mary Lou La Suer, Claypool; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry, who died in 1947; a brother, Emmett; and a sister, Helen Fitton Case Elick.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Gary Boshcain officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
