MENTONE – Robert L. Swihart, 95, Rochester, and formerly of rural Argos, died at 7:20 p.m. Feb. 5, 2015, at his residencel.
He was born Jan. 26, 1920, in     Argos, to Walter D. and Joanna Rohrer Swihart. On Dec. 10, 1939, in Plymouth, he married Fern Shoemaker, who preceded him in death July 17, 1997. On March 6, 1998, in Talma, he then married Barbara Walker, who survives in Rochester.
He was a farmer, a bus driver for Argos Community Schools for 17 years, and also worked for several years for the Marshall County Highway Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mentone. As a young man he played the guitar and the piano. He enjoyed woodworking, clock collecting, working outdoors and spending time with his family.
Also surviving are a daughter, Julia (and spouse John) Baker, Warsaw; three sons: James Swihart, Rochester; Earl (and spouse Sandra) Swihart, Bourbon; Charles (and spouse Vicki) Swihart, Rochester; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; five stepdaughters; a stepson; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons; two brothers, Arthur and Harold Swihart; a sister, Bernice Markley; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Swihart.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St. Mentone, with Pastor Michael Wilhite officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Argos.
Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
