Robert Howard Hile, 92, Warsaw, went home to be with his Lord at 4:35 a.m. March 4, 2011, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born May 11, 1918, in North Webster, to Howard Leroy and Celesta Ophilla Eberly Hile. On Jan. 27, 1979, in Kendallville, he married Ruth A. Grubbs, who preceded him in death.

He spent his life living and working in North Webster, Warsaw, Fort Wayne and Kendallville. A part of Warsaw's history, he and his father owned and operated Hile's Auto Service, Warsaw, for 20 years. He also worked at Fort Wayne American Auto, retiring in 1982. In his later years he worked for the Sun Times, Kendallville, delivering bulk newspapers to the surrounding communities of LaGrange, Shipshewana and others. While in Kendallville, he also worked at Quick Tanks for 15 years until 1998, when health problems would not let him continue working.

After returning to Warsaw, he attended Warsaw Community Church and held memberships in the Warsaw Elks and the Eagles Lodge.

Surviving are two sons, Jim Hile, Talma, and Robert L. (and spouse Linda), Warsaw; a daughter, Dannica Hile, Ocala, Fla.; two grandsons, Mark Hile and David (and spouse Sherri) Hile; a granddaughter; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Geraldine Gross.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Pastor Jeff Pfeifer officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
