He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Allen County, to Ozie and Mabel Goheen Boggs. On Aug. 10, 1946, he married Doris Mae Deeter, his wife of 69 years, who survives.
As a second-grader, his family moved to the Etna area in northern Whitley County. He graduated from Larwill High School.
On Aug. 8, 1944, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre, where he was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. His honorable discharge was on Aug. 22, 1945.
In 1956, he and Doris moved to Warsaw, where they lived until 1970 when they moved to their home in Westgate. In October 1991, they moved to their present home.
A farmer and truck driver for 40 years, he loved driving semi and traveled to every state in the continental United States during his career. He retired in August 1991, and spent his retirement working for Schrader Real Estate and Auction, gardening and woodworking.
He was actively involved with First Church of God.
Also surviving are four children: Barbara Kay (and spouse David) Rink, Kokomo; Gary A. (and spouse Rachel) Boggs, Columbia City; Marcia (and spouse Timothy) Miller, Uniontown, Ohio; and Rhonda (and spouse Philip) DeLong, Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren: Matthew and Christina Rink; Heather Jernigan; Amanda Baker; Jared Boggs; Tyler, Carter and Abigail Miller; Spencer and Alison DeLong; three great-grandchildren: Makenzie Rink, Jack and Luke Jernigan; and a sister, Hilda Hendrickson, Aurora Ill. A sister, Doris Hontz, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is in South Park Cemetery with military honors presented by Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard.
Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
