Robert G. Buhrt, 85, entered his eternal life in Heaven at 10 p.m. July 4, 2015, following a brief illness, in his residence, the same home in Kosciusko County where he was born.
He was born Nov. 7, 1929, to Paul and Ida Mock Buhrt. On Dec. 31, 1953, in Nappanee, he married Lorabell J. Newcomer, who survives.
He graduated from Milford High School in 1947, and went to serve his country honorably in the Army during the Korean War. He was the second generation to farm the home farm after his father’s retirement. He was a dairy farmer most of his farming career and eventually retired as a grain farmer.
He served on the board of directors of the Kosciusko County REMC and the Kosciusko County Farm Bureau Co-Op. He was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church where he served on several committees. His biggest joys in life were spending time with his family, having cookouts at the cabin by the pond, fishing, golfing with his Milford friends, taking drives in the countryside, hosting the annual block party, and joking and laughing with his many friends.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lana (and spouse Ross) Deatsman, Leesburg, and Patricia Buhrt, Goshen; two sons: Don (and spouse Kim) Buhrt, Syracuse, and Phil Buhrt, New Castle; five grandchildren: Ben Deatsman (and fiancé Misty Miller), Milford, Ohio; Joy (and spouse Luke) Lauritsen, Arlington, Neb.; Beth (and spouse Matt) Klaassen, Indianapolis; Jodi Buhrt, Syracuse; and Jay Buhrt, Goshen; two great-grandchildren, Brock and Brant Lauritsen, both of Arlington, Neb.; a sister, Mabel Waldbeser, Milford; and a brother, John Buhrt, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lewis and Ray; and two sisters, Violet Lutes and Florence Nemeth.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mishler Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 461 W. CR 900N, Milford, with Pastor Rob Nelson officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Milford.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and also from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
