Robert E. Smith Sr., 75, of 722 N. Cook St., Warsaw, died at 9:16 a.m. Oct. 27, 2009, in Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.

He was born to Virgil and Dorotha Bentley Smith. On April 25, 1953, in Warsaw, he married Janice L. Hyde, who died Dec. 15, 2008.

He was a truck driver for many years then was a security officer at Zimmer Inc., Warsaw. He also served as caretaker for Camp Singing Hills, owned by the Girl Scouts, Middlebury. He also proudly served in the Indiana National Guard for eight years.

He is survived by his loving family including three sons, William (and spouse Patty) Smith and Timothy Smith, all of Warsaw, and Michael Smith, Wisconsin; a daughter, Tina Smith, Warsaw; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Smith, Chapman Lake, Warsaw; six sisters: Donna Woodling, Claypool; Eileen Warren, Granger; Beverly Tackett, South Whitley; and Ruth Timmreck, Maxine Hepburn and June Senff, all of Warsaw; five brothers: Richard Smith, Rochester; Bill Smith, Texas; Dean Smith, Ohio; Buddy Smith, Tennessee; and Keith Smith, Warsaw; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Smith Jr., a brother and two grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Saturday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Pastors Charles Easterday and William Whitaker officiating. Burial will be private.

Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.
