He was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Columbia City, to Paul and Marie Wysong Phend. On July 11, 1953, he married Marjorie Johnson, who survives.
He retired from International Harvester/Navistar, Fort Wayne.
Also surviving are four children: Norma Schweigel, Columbia City; Michael E. (and spouse Sharon) Phend, Pierceton; Rebecca A. Phend and Rose E. Phend, both of South Whitley; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Calling is from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. There are no services planned. Burial will be at a later date.
